Srinagar, Mar 26 (KNS): Srinagar Municipal Corporation today formally rolled out door to door segregation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) within the city limits of Srinagar.
A grand function in this regard was held here at SMC facilitation centre Naqashpora Babadem. Besides Municipal Officers, people from civil society and all IEC partners having background of different NGO's participated in the event
Pradeep Singh who is advisor to CM presided over the function.
With the launch of this scheme the waste generation at house/ commercial level will be segregated at source into biodegradable and non biodegradable components for it's useful resource recovery at Municipal Landfillsite Achan. Henceforth Achan site can be converted into resource recovery site
These IEC partners shall reach out to grass root levels/ house hold levels to educate the citizens about segregation of waste generated in thier houses into biodegradable and non biodegradable waste said Pradeep Singh.

At least three hundred persons who participated in the event expressed thier willingness for imparting information, education and among stake holders.
This besides the solid Waste in the city can simultaneously generate employment for 300 unemployment youth of the city.
Commissioner SMC Riyaz Ahmed Wani who was hailed by Advisor to CM for taking various initiatives including holding of frequent workshops on capacity building and to intensify the IEC campaigns on ground gave a detailed presentation on the occasion.
He emphasized that youth are change agents and can help in solving many socio economic problem related to MSW in the city provided they remain dedicated and firm in changing the behaviour our people.
Later An interactive session was taken up where IEC systems and processes were discussed at length in which members of civil society including religious scholars,poets who were present on the occasion also participated.
Joint Commissioner adm SMC Syed Abul Qasim earlier gave welcome address to the guests and participants. (KNS)
