Srinagar, Nov 26 (KNS): Reacting to the misinformation being spread regarding nomination of nine chairpersons and vice- chairpersons to various committees by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu being illegal, advisor to mayor Danish Bhat said that nominations to these committees have been made as per Municipal Corporation Act, 2000.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Bhat said that general council of the Corporation has earlier adopted 9 resolutions to form these committees and at the same time empowered the mayor to nominate chairpersons and vice-chairpersons to these committees.

He said that the resolution adopted by the corporation can’t be revoked unilaterally by single order by anyone and actually needs proper consent of the Corporation to reverse the decision. 

“The exercise is solely being done to decentralise power and empower elected corporators to ensure their maximum participation towards the growth and development of the city,” he said. (KNS)
