Srinagar, Jul 18 (KNS): About 60 students from Kashmir who have qualified Indian Council of Agricultural Research entrance tests for pursuing Post Graduation in different universities are at the verge of missing the opportunity as the varsities are denying them admission for lack of qualification certificates.
The students said that they appeared in the All India level ICAR examination and have qualified to pursue their PGs in veterinary sciences from SKUAST Kashmir.
However, due to agitation in 2016, the students said their 6-monthly internship got delayed due to 2016 agitation by six months and they could not get the qualification certificates as per schedule.
As per rules, the SKUAST has to indicate the 6-month period in the certificates, which will be completed on August 31 since the exam was held in March.
“But by then the admissions in ICAR colleges across the country will be closed.”
The students have been selected through ICAR entrance exam for PG courses under JRF and non-JRF in different universities like IVRI, NDRI, Palampur, Pantnagar, SKUAST JAMMU, Bamgloor Mumbai, TANUVAS and various other universities throughout out India.
Now faced with the dilemma, the students along with their guardians are moving from pillar to post and plead before the universities to allow them provisional admission.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir Naseer Ahmad told KNS that he has had been trying his best to persuade the ICAR and directors of the universities where the students have been selected to provide them provisional admission.
“But ICAR and universities replied that they will accept their admissions because of the deficiency of the certificates. It is very unfortunate and sad moment for us as the students from the university had qualified the prestigious entrance after hardwork,” he said.
The VC said that since the students will not get the opportunity to study in the universities, the SKUAST administration will try to accommodate them in the varsity.
“We will call an academic council meeting in which we will think of increasing the seats for MVSC to accommodate the students as we don’t want them to miss and loose the chance to study,” the VC said.
Meanwhile, PDP senior leader and Minister for Revenue A R Veeri told KNS that he will take up the matter with the chief minister to try to persuade the ICAR and universities to provide relaxation to the students and allow them provisional admission.
The students and their parents have appealed the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene and take up the issue with ICAR and Union ministry. (KNS)
