SKUAST-K organized Heritage walk at Hari Parbat

Srinagar June 09 (KNS): NSS units of Faculty of Horticulture (FOH) and College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology SKUAST-K organized a captivating heritage walk at Hari Parbat, Srinagar on 8th June 2023.

 

The main aim was to expose the students to explore history, architecture and culture. Vice Chancellor Prof. M. A. A. Siddique flagged off the contingent and appreciated the role of NSS programme officers in leading from the front to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the valley. He highlighted that such event can serve as remarkable initiative promoting the culture of social responsibility and sustainable future.

 

According to Prof. Siddique, the academic institutions bear the responsibility to spearhead change and inspire students to work towards preservation of culture and heritage. Speaking on the occasion, NSS programme officer Dr. Seemi Lohani and Dr. Mohd. Muzamil provided a brief outline and insight on the significance of heritage walk and stressed on conservation, protection and promotion of historical lineage. It is pertinent to mention that that Hari Parbhat fort presents a secular picture of UT of Jammu and Kashmir with muslim shrine of Khwaja Makhdoom Sahib, Shakti temple and Gurudwara at one place.

According to local kashmiris, the Hari Parbat fort is also known as Koh-e-Maran, with religious and spiritual significance. A total of 50 students participated in the event including UG, PG and PhD students. (KNS)
