SKUAST-K organises cleanliness drive under Clean India Campaign

Srinagar October 19 (KNS):  A campaign for cleanliness drive was today organized at Faculty of Forestry, Benhama-Watlar, SKUAST-K. The Program was initiated under Clean India Campaign 2.0 from Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Regional Directorate of NSS, Government of India. The Program was collaborated from Dean Students Welfare office, SKUAST-K, Shalimar and Department of Students Welfare, Faculty of Forestry. Sarpanch of the locality also coordinated with the programme.

The program has the main aim to dispose the plastic waste and other waste scientifically. A minimum target of collecting and disposing 2 kgs of waste by each NSS volunteer was set. Dr Syed Naseem Geelani, Students Welfare Officer and Organizing Secretary of the Program laid stress on how we can achieve and mitigate the current environmental destruction and degradation. If we will keep our environment clean, our water bodies will remain clean and it can be used for drinking purposes also. Prof M.A.Islam on the occasion said that we should conserve our environment and keep it clean, out of Plastic and other wastes which add to the degradation of the soil. Prof P.A.Khan, Head FBT said that these cleanliness drives should be included in our weekly schedules so that more and more people get awareness regarding the use of plastics and other wastes.

Dr Showkat, Dr NA Pala, Dr Maqbool, Dr Amir and Mr Baba participated in the drive from the Faculty. The Sarpanch of the Benhama area, Mr Gh Nabi Munshi , appreciated the efforts of the Faculty of Forestry in making aware the locals and students of the nearby schools regarding the ill effects of the plastic and other wastes. He thanked the present Dean, Faculty of Forestry, Prof Sajad A Gangoo for his efforts in these programs. Students of the Faculty and NSS volunteers participated in the drive and were happy to do something for saving the environment. Dr Sabina Nabi, Assistant Professor and co organizer, thanked the other organizers, students ,media persons and local Sarpanchs for taking part in the drive.(KNS)
