SKUAST conducts plant distribution programme

Srinagar, Mar 13 (KNS): Awareness cum Plant Distribution Programme under DST Sponsored project “Improvement of grazing land/ pastures through participatory management approach under temperate conditions of Kashmir valley”
Division of Sericulture and Agro forestry, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST- Kashmir, organized awareness cum plant distribution programme under DST Sponsored project “Improvement of grazing land/ pastures through participatory management approach under temperate conditions of Kashmir valley” in collaboration with KVK, Ganderbal SKUAST-K on 12th March 2020 for the farming community of the district Ganderbal. The programme were attended by Faculty members of the Forestry, scientists of the KVK, Ganderbal, President fruit and vegetables growers association Ganderbal, progressive farmers and 40 participants of farming community.
Dr. Javeed Ahmad Mugloo, Senior Scientist of the faculty, and PI of the project, delivered a welcome address and briefed the gathering about the project objectives in context of fodder issues and degradation of the other land uses.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelDr. Mugloo also emphasized on the role of participatory management approach for conservation of grasslands for sustainable development.
Prof. T. H. Masoodi, Dean Faulty of Forestry, emphasized on the importance of the integrated farming approach for rehabilitation of degraded and other waste lands through different Agro forestry models. Professor Masoodi also spoke on the climate change issues and role of the plantation in curbing it.
Dr. J. A. Bhat, PC, KVK, Ganderbal discussed various issues of the farming communities and role of KVKs in technology transfer.
Planting material and high quality fodder seeds were distributed among the farmers
Dr. G. M. Bhat, Senior Scientist of the Faulty presented a vote of thanks apart from acknowledging the scope of different developed Agroforestry models by the Faulty for sustainable livelihood. (KNS)
