SKUAST - Kashmir Conducts Research Extension Advisory Committee Meeting on Virtual Platform

Srinagar October 13: (KNS) The Directorate of Extension, SKUAST- Kashmir conducted 48th REAC meeting on virtual platform today on 13th October, 2020. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Hon’ble Vice – Chancellor, SKUAST – Kashmir and Coordinated by Prof Mushtaq Ahmad, Director Extension/Research of the varsity. Director Agriculture/Floriculture/Sheep Husbandry, officers of the university, district level officers/representatives of line departments and heads of various constituent units of the varsity in Kashmir valley and Ladakh attended the meeting. Prof Mushtaq Ahmad welcomed the participants, highlighted the significance of the meeting in disseminating and popularising the university generated technologies/varieties/breeds/seeds etc and presented the meeting agenda for threadbare deliberations. Officers of development departments of agriculture and allied sectors during their feedback appreciated the contributions of SKUAST in problem-solving research and extension, and reaching out to farmers across the length and breadth of Kashmir and Ladakh. They also highlighted various researchable issues in their respective areas. Eight high yielding and disease/pest resistant genotypes of rice, maize, wheat, cowpea and beans were resolved to be tested in coordination with Department of Agriculture, Kashmir on farmers’ fields as Mini-kits to assess their suitability for release. Hon’ble Vice - Chancellor in his address congratulated the scientists for evolution/breeding of splendid varieties with tremendous potential for yield and quality. He also emphasised on furthering such efforts for bridging the gaps, leading the university towards excellence in research and extension. He thanked officers of development departments and/or their representatives for their cooperation and coordination, and stressed for meeting the farmers’ expectations. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sheikh Muzaffar, Associate Director Extension (Agri.).
