Srinagar, Aug 15(KNS): Director, Skill Development Department, Dr Owais Ahmad on Saturday said skill development and vocational training have a key role in nation-building and urged youth to make the most of available opportunities to contribute to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and the country.
Ahmad unfurled the National Flag at Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar, as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the police and paramilitary forces, representatives of the Directorate of Skill Development, principals of polytechnic colleges and ITIs, besides faculty members and students from various technical education institutions.
The programme commenced with the National Anthem following the flag hoisting.
Addressing the gathering, Ahmad underscored the importance of skill development in empowering youth and strengthening the local economy.

He also highlighted the role of technical education institutions in empowering young people and appreciated the collaboration between training providers and industry partners in promoting community resilience and employment opportunities.
The celebrations also featured patriotic performances by students and trainees.
Ahmad felicitated students of Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar, for their exemplary performance in recently held examinations.
The programme reaffirmed the Skill Development Department's focus on combining patriotic values with practical skill-building and preparing youth for meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.(KNS).
