shopian February 27 (KNS): Shopian police have arrested a smuggler while uncovering a drug trafficking network during a dramatic operation, while police also claimed to have recovered charas from the possession of the said smuggler.  

Sources told KNS that several drug gangs have been active in several villages in Shopian district for the past several years, but police, taking serious note of the whole matter, launched a large-scale anti-drug campaign in collaboration with civil Society.

Meanwhile, police have managed to nab several smugglers and people at the local level appreciate the police operation. Police sources told KNS that a special team of Shopian police conducted a dramatic operation on Saturday afternoon. A man belonging to Meminder Shopian identified as Waseem Ahmed  son of Manzoor Ahmed and claimed to have recovered 50 grams of charas from his possession and police have registered an FIR No. 30/2021 in this regard.

A case has been registered under Section 8/20 NDPS Act at Shopian police station, however, police sources said that the accused is being questioned in this regard and further revelations are expected in this regard.

The locals have highly appreciated this action of the police and have expressed hope that the police will continue such action in future also.(KNS)
