DC Shopian Felicitates Winners; Event Highlights Cultural Engagement as a Powerful Tool Against Drug Abuse
Shopian ,Dec 6 (KNS) : The Grand Finale of Shopian Idol Season-2 was today held at Government Degree College, Shopian, marking the vibrant conclusion of the district’s annual singing talent competition.
Organised by the District Administration Shopian under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shishir Gupta, the programme was conducted under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, reinforcing the message of a drug-free, constructive and culturally enriched society.
This youth-centric initiative, now in its second season, forms a key component of the district’s efforts to counter drug abuse among young people. By providing a platform for creative expression, cultural engagement and public recognition, the administration aims to channel youthful energy towards arts, tourism, self-employment and other positive pursuits.
Seven finalists captivated the audience with mesmerising performances, showcasing exceptional vocal talent and competitive spirit.
At the end of an inspiring musical contest, Athar Bin Khursheed was declared the Winner of Shopian Idol Season-2. He was felicitated with a trophy, appreciation certificate and a cash award of Rs. 8000.
Aashiq Ahmad Wani and Manzoor Ahmad Shah secured the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, receiving trophies, certificates and cash awards of Rs.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel5000 and Rs. 3000.
Congratulating the winners and participants, the DC appreciated their outstanding creativity, passion and confidence,emphasising that platforms like Shopian Idol not only discover new talent but also serve as important socio-cultural interventions to steer youth away from drugs and other harmful activities.
“Engaging young people in music, arts, sports and cultural activities is essential for building a healthier, progressive and drug-free society,” he said.He added that cultural initiatives also play a role in promoting local tourism, boosting self-employment opportunities, and showcasing Shopian’s growing cultural vibrancy at the national level.
This year’s edition witnessed an overwhelming registration of more than 80 contestants, who progressed through multiple rounds before seven finalists were shortlisted for the Grand Finale.
