Chairman NLCO says Shikars will soon relocate to Zadibal-Sazgaripora

Srinagar, June 06 (KNS): Chairman of the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization (NLCO), Manzoor Wanznoo said that after three decades, Shikaras are anticipated to move into the Gilsar Lake.

He expressed his delight that the water body has been restored after three decades and said that Shikars will soon relocate to Zadibal-Sazgaripora, which will bring tourists back to the area.

"Shikaras will row from Gilsar to Sazgaripora, just as they did three decades ago. By integrating water trekking and bird watching, it could start a new chapter in the tourism industry," Wangnoo added.

Notably, an environmental symposium was held at NIT Srinagar's Common Hall by NLCO in partnership with NIT Srinagar and PSAJK.

The event was inaugurated by Shafi Pandit, which was attended by numerous other academicians and volunteers besides Dr GN Qasba, former SMC commissioner, Dr MA Shah, HoD Physics, GN Var President PSAJK, and Er Ijaz Naqaahbandi Aesthetic Art Gallery & NLCO president Ahmad Wangnoo. On the occasion, chairman NLCO was declared as green ambassador of Kashmir by NIT Srinagar

Wangnoo said that NLCO believes in a pragmatic approach and pledges to restore 3 springs at Lar Ganderbal as a part of its commitment to offer its bit towards the conservation effort.

Pertinent to mention, Mission Ehsaas, which was launched last year, has taken the initiative to clear old waterbodies of Srinagar that were once tourist attractions.

For the last three decades, these waterbodies have shrunk or have been turned into dumping sites. But the efforts of the NLCO have bear fruits and since then, they have successfully managed to restore lost glory of Khuslar Sur, while clearance of other water bodies is going on in full swing. (KNS)
