Srinagar, Oct 01 (KNS): Amid strict restrictions, police here on Sunday prevented mourners from taking out the main Ashura procession on the 10th day of Muharram, though Ashura was observed with religious fervor across Jammu and Kashmir. Some groups of Shia mourners however succeeded in reaching Lal Chowk or very close it, but police foiled their procession and detained scores of them.
Police detained several Shia mourners near Clock Tower in Srinagar to prevent them from taking out the Ashura procession held traditionally on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Muharram.
The mourners who had arrived in a private vehicle from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district under the banner of Anjuman-e-Sharie were shouting pro-freedom and pro Islamic slogans when they were detained.
In central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Ashura processions were taken out from Mirgund which culminated at Markaz-e-Imam Bara Budgam.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelA lecture, on the occasion, was delivered by Aga Syed Almosvi Alsafvi of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian. In his lecture, he spoke about the Karbala Martyrs and said the Shia-Sunni unity is a strong bond. He reiterated that Kashmir issue has to be resolved as per the aspirations of people.
In the processions, the people were seen raising slogans against US, Israel and Mayanmar accusing them for “committing atrocities against Muslim Ummah.”
Anjuman-e-Sharie also organized a blood donation camp at Zehra Park Budgam. The para-medical staff of Aga Syed Yousuf Memorial Hospital played a key role in the organisation of this blood donation camp. Scores of mourners donated their blood.
On this occasion Anjuman-e-Sharie president Aga Syed Hasan Almosvi Alsafvi said that saving a human life by donating blood is the greatest service to humanity. (KNS)
