Srinagar, October 8 (KNS): Senior political leader & former Deputy Mayor Srinagar Sheikh Mohammad Imran on Saturday felicitated the people of J&K on the auspicious occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi ? while praying for the serenity, brotherhood and progress in the society.

In his statement to the media, Sheikh Mohammad Imran said the birth of Prophet Mohammad ? marks the beginning of a new era in the history which put an end to inequality and reinstated the dignity of human beings.

“On this day is we commemorate the noble teachings and merciful character of the Holy Prophet ? who even after suffering at the hands of Meccan adversaries made supplication for their guidance and well-being. These noble traits need to be explored and imbibed in order to make ourselves worthy of calling the followers of the beloved Prophet peace be upon him,” he said.

Imran requested the religious leaders to deliver special lessons of Sirat-un-Nabi ? to the youth about benevolent aspects of Prophet’s ? noble character and advise them to shun from falling prey to the social evils which our beloved Prophet ? always disliked.

“Social evils are slowly eating the vitals of our society. The unabating drug menace and crimes against women are on the rise. This is high time for us to illuminate ourselves with the spiritual guidance in order to constrain the spread of such noxious evils. I sometimes think about how would Prophet ? react to the incidents of acid attacks and killing daughters-in-laws. Would he approve of it? Never. We need to mend our ways and try to cultivate back our lost humanity. This is what our Prophet ? taught: Be Merciful to the People and Allah will be merciful to you. So, let’s make mercy our inalienable trait,” he said.

Sheikh Mohammad Imran also urged the Administration to ensure hassle-free movement to holy places especially Hazratbal.

“There is an immense shortage of drinking water across Srinagar especially Shahr-e-Khass. I urge the administration and Jal Shakti Department to provide unimpeded water supply on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi ?. The traffic advisory must be followed in letter and spirit in order to avoid any inconvenience to the devotees,” he demanded.(KNS)
