Sheikh Imran calls NC & PDP "Rented Rebels", accusing them of sending BJP member to Parliament

Srinagar, May 6 (KNS); J&K Peoples Conference State Secretary Organisation Sheikh Mohammad Imran held a press conference today, launching a sharp attack on National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party over the election of a BJP candidate to the Rajya Sabha from Jammu & Kashmir, demanding transparency over what he called a political betrayal of the Kashmiri people.

Addressing the media, Imran set the tone remarking that politics had been reduced to a "short notice affair," and that even ordinary citizens were beginning to feel ashamed of the political landscape. He dismissed what he described as "essay-like tweets" from political organisations as hollow distractions.

Taking direct aim at PDP's Wahid-ur-Rehman Para over references to Sirajul Uloom and Urdu, Imran said such statements were deliberate diversions. "Don't teach us about Urdu or Sirajul Uloom — we understand. We know what phases we are passing through," he said bluntly.

Imran accused both NC and PDP of operating as what he called "rented rebels", a term he attributed to JKPC president Sajjad Gani Lone, where one party speaks against Delhi for five years while the other sits in its lap, and then the roles reverse. "In 2014, votes were sought against the BJP, and as soon as PDP got the majority, they formed the government with the BJP," he noted.

The most pointed part of Imran's address centred on what he described as a numerical impossibility — that eight votes materialised for the BJP Rajya Sabha candidate despite the party lacking the numbers to win the seat on its own.

"The BJP had no majority or numbers to send a Rajya Sabha member from here.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelBut through Kashmiri votes, especially PDP and National Conference, a BJP member was sent to Delhi," he said. "Eight votes came. Where did they come from? They weren't just born."

He questioned why neither PDP nor Congress appointed an election agent during the Rajya Sabha poll, calling it a telling omission. Imran also cited a media person who claimed to have evidence that a PDP MLA from North Kashmir was on the phone with a BJP leader immediately after casting his vote, reportedly confirming he had voted as instructed. "If this didn't happen, I will apologize. But if it happened, come forward and apologize to the nation," Imran said.

He further alleged that certain political accommodations, including eased bail conditions for Wahid Para, a house in Gupkar, and an advisory role, may have been part of undisclosed arrangements. "Kashmiris are not fools," he said pointedly.

Imran also referenced the post-Bengal election political activity, noting that leaders from rival parties were knocking on the same doors in Delhi, and suggested that an NC-BJP alliance was not beyond the realm of possibility.

He urged the media to press NC, PDP, and Congress for direct answers rather than allowing diversionary statements to go unchallenged.

"Tell us clearly how a BJP Rajya Sabha member was elected through the doll-game of NC, PDP, and Congress," he concluded, warning that if satisfactory answers were not forthcoming, the Peoples Conference would systematically reveal further details at a follow-up press conference. (KNS)
