Srinagar, May 14 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday inaugurated the 'Shaurya Gatha' Complex at SM Hill in Tangdhar, Karnah sector of Kupwara district, describing it as a major step towards promoting battlefield tourism and border area development in Jammu and Kashmir.
The complex, built with the efforts of the Northern Command and the Chinar Corps, pays tribute to the valour and sacrifice of Indian soldiers, Mr Sinha said.
"The dedication of our forces and people is the true strength of the nation. The Shaurya Gatha Complex stands as a tribute to their courage. This initiative will create new opportunities for border tourism, homestays, local crafts and youth entrepreneurship," the Lt Governor said.
He commended the Army, engineers, workforce and local residents for completing the project in a short span of time, asserting that the courage of fallen soldiers should serve as a source of pride for every Indian.
Drawing a comparison with the neighbouring region, LG Sinha said that while Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing an era of peace, progress and prosperity, the illegally Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) continues to suffer from neglect and misgovernance.
The Lt Governor said seven villages in Tangdhar and Karnah have been included under the Centre's Vibrant Village Programme to improve infrastructure, livelihood opportunities and quality of life. He also highlighted the strategic importance of the Sadhna Tunnel, saying it will enhance all-weather connectivity, security and economic activity in the region.
"I urge citizens across the nation to visit Shaurya Gatha Complex and plan their holidays at offbeat destinations in Kupwara," Mr Sinha said.
He also praised the Army's contribution to the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir campaign, noting that Tangdhar remains a strategic location where cross-border attempts to push narcotics continue.
"The development of an airport-like facility by the Army in the region will serve as a critical asset in our mission against drug smuggling," he said, calling upon police and security forces to maintain foolproof surveillance.
Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma (GOC-in-C, Northern Command), Lieutenant General Balbir Singh (GOC, Chinar Corps), MLA Karnah Javaid Ahmad Mirchal and senior Army, civil and police officials attended the inauguration. (KNS)
