Shah’s residence turned into virtual jail: Freedom Party

‘Barred from performing religious duties’

The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has severely criticized the state administration over “turning the residence of chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah into a jail” and said those coming to meet him (Shah) face immense hardships due to police questioning. In addition to this, the party in its statement said that Shah is not allowed to perform religious obligations including Friday and recent Eid prayers.
In a statement to KNS, according to party spokesperson, since Shah was released in 2011, he has been barred from offering 156 Friday and 8 Eid prayers “which is sheer interference in religious activities of an individual.” “Such example of political repression is hard to find in any part of the world where political opponents are confined to their homes and are not allowed to carry out their activities or meet people.”
Taking a dig at head of state administration, the spokesperson said during the time of his predecessor Omar Abdullah, he (Mufti) used to make hue and cry over the same activities he himself is carrying out now. “He (Mufti) used to thump chest and make noise over the restrictions placed on activities of resistance leadership but after getting chair of chief minister from New Delhi has reneged from all the promises and pledges he had made during elections and has resorted to political vengeance.”
Terming all pro-India politicians as “two sides of same coin”, DFP spokesperson said they all are “sincere servants” of New Delhi.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“The Mufti led government is most coward regime who cannot fight its opponents on a political platform except caging the entire resistance leadership in a total undemocratic way.”
Commenting on continuous house arrest of Shah and other pro-freedom leaders, he said, “The current political dispensation of state is “blackest period” J&K has ever witnessed. They (authorities) should bear in mind that they cannot, in any way, change the ideology of pro-freedom Kashmiris who will always fight for their birth right of freedom from Indian forcible occupation.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson has vehemently condemned the arrest of party’s senior leader Engineer Farooq Ahmad Khan of Janglaat Mandi, Anantnag. Er Farooq, who was released recently after a span of 19 years and 7 months, was arrested by police from his home yesterday.
He also condemned the atrocities unleashed over the common masses by police and CRPF personnel in south Kashmir areas of Islamabad, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama and Tral. He accused forces of vandalized properties of people and resorting to excesses by conducting nocturnal raids and arbitrary arrests. “People should raise strong protests against such oppression and vengeance by the so-called administration,” the spokesperson added.
