Completes 229 days of detention since 2015: Spokesperson

Srinagar, Jan 29 (KNS): Terming the continuous detention of the incarcerated Chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Shabir Ahmad Shah, as “unconstitutional”, a party spokesperson on Friday said apart from converting the whole valley into a virtual jail, Indian authorities have imposed a blanket ban on the movement of resistance leaders of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement to KNS, the spokesperson while giving details of DFP Chairman’s detention period, said, “Since 2015 till date, Shabir Ahmad Shah has been kept under house arrest for a period of 229 days during which he was barred from offering 46 Friday and 2 Eid prayers.
This amounts to a total of 30 months of house detention with restrictions of 180 Friday and 9 Eid prayers since his release in 2011. Even today, he continues to be under house arrest and was not allowed to offer 5 Friday prayers this year.” He said authorities have turned Shah’s residence into a sub-jail and close vigil is maintained on every person who comes there.
Terming such attitude of administration as “autocratic”, the spokesperson said despite the repressive and suppressive measures, the people will continue, with full zeal and vigor, the freedom movement.
“By keeping the resistance leadership under continuous house areest, authorities actually want to create a gulf between us and people,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The spokesperson said the silence of human rights bodies over the situation in Kashmir is a tragedy for us. “Such criminal silence on part of HR bodies encourages India to crush the genuine voices of Kashmiri people. Such attitude cannot be termed as people friendly.
Our struggle is just and genuine and we will continue our mission by braving all odds. No power in this world can crush our movement.”
According to spokesperson, authorities have slapped PSA on Freedom Party’s member, Abdul Waheed (Handwara) and he has been shifted to Kot Bhalwal jail. Police also arrested various DFP activists from Islamabad, Shopian, Baramulla, Pulwama and other parts of the valley.
On the directions of Shabir Ahmad Shah, three delegations today visited Tujjar Sharif Sopore, Kupwara and Khanabal. Molvi Bashir Ahmad led delegation to Tujjar Sharif to express condolence with the People’s League member, Bashir Ahmad Makhdoomi on the sad demise of his father. Ghazi Manzoor Ahmad led a delegation, which included Molvi Sajad, Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, Shabir Ahmad Baba and others, to Khanabal, Islamabad to express condolence and solidarity with the family of Shaheed Mushtaq Ahmad. In Kupwara, Peer Inayatullah paid tributes to martyrs of Kupwara massacre and addressed people there. (KNS)
