Sex racket busted in Handwara, couple among 5 arrested: Police

Handwara, April 25 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Police has busted another sex trafficking racket in Reshipora area of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, resulting in the arrest of five including a couple accused, officials said here on Tuesday.


An official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that the information was received from reliable sources about a racket of immoral activities operating from the house of an individual in Reshipora. 

"Accordingly, a search party conducted a raid in the house of Shabir Ahmad War, son of Ghulam Ahmad War, of Reshipora, where a sex racket was busted," he said.

He also said that five persons were arrested from the spot, including the house owner and his wife, one sex worker and two customers. "Cash amounting to Rs 47,800/- was also recovered from the spot," the official said.

The arrested accused have been identified as Rayees Ah Lone, son of Khazir Mohd Lone, of Dangerpora, Rafiabad, Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh, of Binner, Baramulla and Shabir Ahmad War, son of Gh Ahmad War, of Rishipora Kralgund (house owner). Besides a female sex worker (name withheld) and Wife of the houseowner (name withheld).

"An FIR No. 37/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Kralgund and investigation initiated," the police official said.

Meanwhile, the police action against the sex racket has been widely appreciated by the people.

Notably, this is the fourth sex racket that has been busted by the J&K police in the last one month with two being busted in central Kashmir's Srinagar city while one in Jammu region.(KNS).
