Bukhari starts process; Interacts with NLSIU VC, faculty, students High-level state team to also visit NALSAR Hyderabad

The high-level visiting delegation of J&K’s Law Ministry today held extensive deliberations with the management and faculty of NLSIU Bangalore to explore the ways and means for establishing the maiden National Law University in Jammu and Kashmir.
The State delegation is headed by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari.
The delegation held marathon meetings with Prof (Dr) R Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor, NLSIU and other faculty members of the University to get first-hand information on how to go ahead with the ambitious project of having an institution of similar repute and prestige in J&K. They also interacted with the students and went around the campus to take stock of the academic and other facilities there.
Pertinently, the State Government has deputed the high level delegation to NLSIU Bangalore and NALSAR Hyderabad to study how best the proposed National Law University can be established in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister is accompanied by senior officers of the State’s Law Department including Law Secretary, Mohammad Ashraf Mir.
“We have set out on this ambitious project of having a National Law University in J&K on the initiative of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,” Bukhari said and added that the State team headed by him would be also visiting NALSAR Hyderabad to see, in person, the functioning of these prestigious institutions so that an appropriate model could be adopted for J&K.
He said the purpose of their visit is to go through the academic courses offered NLISU and NALSAR, the requirement of faculty, the management and other vital issues involved in establishing such an institution in J&K.
The Minister said that the objective of having a National Law University in J&K is to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes to develop in the students and research scholars a sense of responsibility to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms and the like, to organise lectures, seminars, symposia and conferences to promote legal knowledge and to make law and legal processes efficient instruments of social development.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Bukhari said that most of the states in the country including New Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh have already established National Law Universities and given the keen interest evinced by the students from J&K to pursue advanced courses in legal sciences and research, mostly outside the State, there is a pressing demand for setting up a National Law University in J&K.
The Minister said that besides undergraduate and post-graduate courses, the proposed Law University in J&K would also offer doctorate in law. There would be also super-specialized courses in Business Law, Corporate Governance, Human Rights, Medical Law, Disability Law, Environmental Law, Cyber Law and IP Law, he said.
He said the development of niche areas would be facilitated through centres focusing on specific subjects to allow students to pursue specific interests, while at the same time creating a rich and diverse human resource base, within the State, in the intended areas.
He said while the admission to proposed Law University in J&K would be done through a national level entrance test, however, there would be reserved seats for the students from the State, which would be purely on merit basis.
