Srinagar, Aug 17 (KNS): The annual Majlis-e-Hussaini was held at Astana Sharif Shaheed Syed Muhammad Daniyal (RA) at Dab in Ganderbal, with thousands of devotees attending the religious gathering organised under the auspices of Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian.
Addressing the gathering, Anjuman's General Secretary Hujjat-ul-Islam Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas Mosavi Al-Safavi said service to humanity, welfare of society and assistance to the needy were among the fundamental teachings of Islam and the school of Ahl al-Bayt (AS).
"Merely attending religious gatherings and observing rituals is not sufficient. The true expression of Hussaini character lies in translating religious teachings into practical life," he said.
Quoting a Quranic verse, Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas said actions that benefit people leave a lasting impact and urged people to make themselves useful to others and consider service to humanity a moral and religious responsibility.
Recalling the contributions of Mir Shams-ud-Din Araqi (RA) and other religious personalities, he said they played an important role in introducing and strengthening the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt in Kashmir.
He said their legacy placed a responsibility on the present generation to make service to religion, humanity and society a priority.
Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas said the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt were universal in nature and emphasised morality, compassion, character and service to humanity.
He appealed to people to rise above sectarian prejudices and promote brotherhood, mutual respect and humanitarian service.
On social issues, he said governments had a responsibility to ensure basic public services, including access to clean drinking water and other essential facilities.

He urged people to raise their legitimate concerns in an organised and peaceful manner instead of relying on emotional slogans.
The cleric also called upon the younger generation to channel their education, skills and energy towards nation-building and economic self-reliance.
With determination, hard work and collective thinking, he said, young people could contribute to meaningful and lasting positive change in society.
Referring to the message of Imam Hussain (AS), Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas said Karbala should not be viewed merely as an event to be remembered but as a call to resist oppression, assist the vulnerable, practise sacrifice and generosity, and stand for truth and justice.
He said mourning for Imam Hussain should also inspire people to incorporate his ideals into their everyday conduct.
"Helping the needy and supporting the vulnerable is not merely a social obligation but also a religious duty," he said.
Referring to the burial of the martyrs of Karbala by Banu Asad after Ashura, he highlighted the values of service, sacrifice and human compassion reflected in the episode.
He urged devotees not to regard Majalis-e-Aza and mourning merely as religious rituals, but to embody the Hussaini ideals of service, sacrifice, generosity and support for the oppressed in their personal and social lives.
The Majlis concluded with prayers for the welfare of humanity, peace, brotherhood, compassion and mutual cooperation in society.(KNS).
