Security forces committed to silence last gun for lasting peace in J&K: DGP RR Swain

Srinagar, Dec 16 (KNS): Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain on Saturday said that security forces are committed to silencing the last gun of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to secure a lasting peace in the Valley.

He that while the number of local terrorists has significantly decreased, there remains a challenge with foreign terrorists while a strategic goal of achieving zero infiltration, zero terror recruitment, and zero arms smuggling is ongoing.

Addressing media at Srinagar, the DGP stated that the local recruitment has fallen to less than 20 this year, compared to 100 in 2022. He refrained from disclosing the number of foreign terrorists but acknowledged the existing challenge. Swain asserted that the police are working diligently to minimize terror-related incidents, smuggling, narcotics, and terror financing.

Highlighting the comprehensive approach, Swain said ongoing plans to dismantle and degrade the terror ecosystem, targeting those involved in recruitment, arms provision, infiltration, logistics support, and identifying targets for terrorists. While acknowledging the progress made, he emphasized that silencing the last gun would take time.

Responding to concerns about potential infiltration attempts from Pakistan before winter snowfall blocks passages, Swain affirmed the relentless efforts to counter such actions. He assured that citizens on the right side of the law need not fear, as the government aims for lasting peace, leading to improved infrastructure, education, health services, and economic activities.

Plans are also underway to address the connection between terrorism and corruption within the system. Swain presided over a public grievance redressal program, part of an initiative to address community concerns. He urged public cooperation and emphasized the importance of collective efforts for sustained peace in the region.(KNS)
