Srinagar, Mar 05 (KNS): The patient care in north Kashmir’s Kupwara sub-district has been badly hit due to shortage of doctors and paramedical staff.
Residents appealed authorities to look into the matter and strengthen the manpower of medicos and paramedical staff in the hospital which caters to a large area.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), locals of Kupwara district alleged that the SDH Kupwara is facing acute shortage of doctors and other paramedical staff which resulted hardships to patients who are forced to visit hospitals of other districts.
“People need good healthcare facilities not only in city but also in district headquarters, but healthcare sector is in shambles in countryside,”locals said.
Notably, Ophthalmology unit of Kupwara Sub-District Hospital was considered as best performing units of the valley where more than 450 minor and major eye surgeries were performed.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“In 2017, an eye surgeon who was serving in the hospital was transferred to Gurez but after people registered their protest, then court intervened and retained him back in the hospital. But after three months, a local politician used his influence and transferred him to Gurez along with the post”, said a member of civil society Kupwara.
He further said that patients since then are compelled to move from pillar to post despite appraising their concern to authorities repeatedly.
He added from the very day the patients having eye ailments are compelled to move to Srinagar or private hospitals for treatment.
