Handwara, Dec 24 (KNS): Society for child rights and alternative care and protection a Handwara based non-government organization Wednesday organized a daylong seminar on child rights at Shiekh ul Aalam environment hall Handwara.
The seminar was attended by delegation from corporate, government institutions, social welfare department, bar associations, Athwaas, forest department, to create awareness in the backdrop of children to rights violation.
The seminar aims at motivating and sensitizing mental health, professionals and students to child protection and safety developing professional teams for child protection. The seminar will serve as a platform for evaluating the current policies, programmes and practices.
SCRAP is taking an initiative with an aim to protect children from rampant abuse which has become a deep rooted social and cultural problem. Seminar organizer Adv G N Khan in his welcome address said. “We have got together under an umbrella organization titled SCRAP and the aim of the programme is to highlight the issue of a non-responsive and unprepared child protection system in the Handwara town. We also want to empower the general public to condemn any act of violence against children.’’

Justice Kirmani criticized the United Nations policy for their negative role in protecting the rights of the children; they further said that United Nations convention on protection of child rights is a failure. In their conclusive remarks they urged the village headman, village committees, civil societies and other religious and non religious and socially motivated groups to come forward with the joint efforts to protect the rights of the children and stated that by launching the societies like society for child rights and protection is the need of hour and should be supported at every corner.
Lots of children are at risk of disability, maltreatment and abuse,” coordinator SCRAP and Chairman Athwaas Adv Mir Imranin his Vote of thanks said while adding that a dire need arises to speak on behalf of these unheard voices to protect their rights. He added that the objective of the campaign is to make communities aware of the safety needs of children, inform members of communities of important services, key legal provisions and procedure which exist, and empower them to demand safety and protection of their children. “Through the series of programmes that have been planned, the organization wants to educate the public that receiving protection is the fundamental right of every child.
