Schools Closed Till August 30 Amid Flood Threat

Srinagar, Aug 28 (KNS): The Directorate of School Education Jammu on Thursday ordered the closure of all government and private schools across Jammu division till August 30 in view of continuous heavy rains and rising flood threat.

According to the order, heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging in school premises, flooding in low-lying areas, landslide risks, and damage to roads, making physical attendance unsafe. Parents and civil society members had also requested closure to ensure student safety.

Heads of institutions have been asked to explore online classes for students of classes 9 to 12 wherever possible. Schools have also been directed to carry out sanitation and safety checks before reopening.

The Directorate stressed that Chief Education Officers and school heads must follow Standard Operating Procedures and coordinate with local administration before resuming physical classes. Parents and students have been advised to stay updated through official communication channels.(KNS)
