School of Humanities and liberal Arts, CLUJ commemorates world poetry day

Jammu March 21:(KNS) Department of English, School of Humanities & Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu organised online Poetry Recitation Contest on 21st March, 2021 to commemorate World Poetry Day.The participants from the respective P.G.I English Hons. (School of Humanities & Liberal Arts)/ U.G. English Hons.(Govt. M. A. M. College & G. C. W. Gandhi Nagar) / P.G. English (G. G. M. Science College) came up with different poems and recited them with great fondness and zeal. Poetry is a piece of writing which gives expression to feelings and ideas involving rhyme, rhythm, expression, diction, feeling, imagery, and music of words.

Taking all these facts into consideration the students got an opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence. The objective of this contest was mainly to increase the appreciation for the language and to hone the public speaking skills of students. In addition, the contest allowed the students to ignite the flame of the poet within them. All the participants were given two minutes to recite self composed poems and poems by other poets. Dr. Geetanjali A. Rana gave the formal welcome to the jury members. She encouraged the budding talent to showcase their skills on various platforms. The judges comprised of Dr. Ritu Magotra (Head, Department of English G.C.W. Parade) and Dr. Shalini Sharma (Senior Faculty, Department of English, G. C. W. Parade) lauded the efforts of the students and motivated them. Among other faculty members who graced the occasion were Dr. Twinkle Suri, Coordinator, English. Hons, Dr. Banpreet Kour, Dr. Gurdeep Kour and Prof. Neeraj Sharma from Govt. M.A.M. College. Dr. Eva Sharma anchored the proceedings of the programme. The I st position was bagged by Sarthika Sharma (P.G.I English Hons. Sem 5, Department of English, School of Humanities & Liberal Arts) & Anu Bagal (P G ENGLISH Sem 3, G.G.M .Science College), II nd position was bagged by Mansi Sharma (P.G.I.English Hons., Sem 3, Department of English , School of Humanities & Liberal Arts) & III rd positions was bagged by Nikita (P.G.I.English Hons. Sem 3, Department of English, School of Humanities & Liberal Arts). A formal Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Indu Sharma.(KNS)
