Socio-Economic Welfare of Workers Especially in Present Circumstances our Priority, says Commissioner Secretary

Baramulla, July 16 (KNS): Commissioner Secretary Labour & Employment Department, Saurabh Bhagat accompanied by Labour Commissioner Abdul Rasheed War and other concerned officers today paid visit to Baramulla where he launches the Mission Mode Project (MMP) for registration of leftout deserving workers with J&K Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB).

Pertinent to mention that the project has been launched with an aim to provide social security and other kind of financial assistance to all such deserving labours/workers who were previously not covered under any welfare schemes sponsored by the government.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo briefed the Commissioner Secretary about various measures that were taken in the present situation for the welfare of workers. He informed that COVID-19 relief of Rs 4000 @ Rs 1000 per month has been disbursed into the accounts of registered workers.

After launching the project, the Commissioner Secretary said that the workers after registration would be able to avail the benefits of all the related schemes and programmes including Pradhan Mantri Sharam Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana (PM-SYM), PM-JAY, Atal Pension Yojana and other welfare schemes. He said the present dispensation is committed for the overall socio-economic welfare of the labour class and providing every kind of assistance in the present circumstances is a much needed step to mitigate their hardships.

While emphasizing upon ensuring transparency at every step of implementation, the commissioner secretary directed to eliminate every kind of intermediary in different welfare schemes. He further added that COVID-19 relief is being provided to the workers directly in their bank accounts through DBT mode. Moreover, he stressed upon the concerned officers to work in coordination and cooperation so that the welfare schemes are implemented effectively at the ground level.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Secretary also reviewed the progress of several welfare schemes of the Department viz Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Scheme (PM-SYM), NPS-Traders, Atal Pension Yojana, PMBSY etc during which he exhorted to ensure the timely and effective implementation of these programmes. He directed to cover all the deserving beneficiaries under the ambit of these schemes. He also distributes cheques worth Rs 95.85 lakh as financial assistance among 1011 identified beneficiaries of the district.

Later, Saurabh Bhagat along with various officers inspects the finshing work on Labour Sarai that is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.34 crore at Kanlibagh Baramulla. The commissioner secretary directed to speed up the pace of work so that the project is completed as early as possible.(KNS)
