Srinagar, Mar 12 (KNS): Inspector general of police Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar on Saturday said that Sarpanchs and Panchs are soft targets as 90 per cent of them are without PSOs and those who have any kind of threat have been provided secure accommodations in Srinagar.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a function here, IGP said that those Sarpanchs and Panchs who have any kind of threat have been provided safe and secure accommodations in Srinagar and respective district headquarters.

“We all know that Sarpanchs and Panchs are soft targets, that is why militants attack them as 90 per cent of them are without PSOs,” he said.

He also said that joint forces had launched four operations in different parts of the Kashmir Valley of which three turned into encounters.

“During these encounters four militants were killed while another on was captured alive. Two militants including a Pakistani militant Kahlid Bhai, a top commander of JeM, was killed in Pulwama encounter. With his killing there is no active militant in Karimabad now, which once used to be hub of militants,” IGP said.

He also said that one militant each was killed in Ganderbal and Handwara encounters late last night.

“Nowadays there is one Pakistani militant accompanying at least two local militants and on the directions from across the border, they try to use religious places to create law and order situation. We are exercising utmost caution to foil such ill intentions of militants,” he said. (KNS)
