Gurez March 20 (KNS) : Dozens of  panchayat members of Gurez today  protested near  SDM office Gurez . 
The protesting Sarpanchs demanded immediate hike in monthly honorarium . “It is difficult to work under the existing honorariums of Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively", said a panchyat representative, adding that "we demand a hike in honorarium for sarpanches &  panches to  per month,”

Protesting sarpanches told KNS  that they should also give  powers for smooth execution  of development at the grassroots. Stating that DDC& BDC members  should be given equal powers, the protesting Sarpanches said "we are working on meger honorarium Govt should increase our honorarium .Abdul Raheem, a Sarpanch  told KNS  that  Panchayat level governance has been introduced  but it has served no purpose beyond cheap publicity and drum beating, adding that . " "despite promising development and powers through Panchayats nothing substantial has been achieved. Authorities do not pay any heed to our proposals, recommendations and suggestion"(KNS)
