Budgam, July 17 (KNS): Residents and commuters from Narkara, Gangbugh, Galwanpora, Gurteng and Ompora have urged the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioners of Budgam and Srinagar to intervene immediately to address the deteriorating condition of roads in the area.

The commuters alleged that prolonged leakages from Public Health Engineering (PHE) water supply pipelines have severely damaged several road stretches, leaving behind deep potholes, waterlogged patches and broken surfaces.

They said the absence of an effective drainage system has further aggravated the problem, making commuting hazardous for motorists, pedestrians, schoolchildren and patients.

They demanded a joint inspection by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, PHE Department and SMC to assess the extent of the damage, plug the leaking pipelines, improve drainage infrastructure and undertake immediate restoration and blacktopping of the affected roads.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Describing the Narkara–Gangbugh road as one of the shortest and busiest links connecting Srinagar with Budgam district, the commuters said the route caters to thousands of vehicles daily but has failed to keep pace with the growing traffic volume.

They urged the authorities to explore the feasibility of widening the road at vulnerable stretches to ease congestion and improve commuter safety.

Appealing to the SMC Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioners of Budgam and Srinagar, the residents urged the administration to treat the issue as a priority and expedite long-pending repair and widening works to ensure safe, reliable and efficient connectivity for the public.(KNS)
