Sakeena Itoo Distributes Motorized Tricycles, Inaugurates PMMVY Awareness Programme in Poonch

 POONCH, AUGUST 05 (KNS): Minister for Social Welfare, Sakeena Itoo, today distributed motorized tricycles among 28 specially abled persons at a function held in Poonch.

The event, organized by the Department of Social Welfare, aimed to enhance the mobility and independence of individuals with physical challenges.

MLA Haveli, Ajaz Ahmed Jan; Director Social Welfare Jammu; Additional District Development Commissioner Poonch; DSWO Poonch; other district and sectoral officers, and locals were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive governance. “Empowering the differently-abled is not just a matter of providing mobility aids, it is about ensuring dignity, accessibility and opportunity for every individual, regardless of their physical abilities,” she said.

She emphasized the need for continued efforts to bridge gaps in accessibility and assured more such initiatives across other districts to facilitate specially abled persons. She also urged the administration to prioritize the needs of marginalized communities and ensure timely support for persons with disabilities.

The Minister said these tricycles are not just about mobility, but symbolize dignity, independence and opportunity for those with special needs.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Minister for the life-changing support, noting that the tricycles would significantly enhance their access to education, employment, and public services.

Later, the Minister inaugurated a training-cum-awareness programme under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).

Addressing participants, she highlighted the present government’s commitment—under the leadership of Omar Abdullah—to delivering essential services to people at their doorsteps. She spoke extensively about social sector schemes focused on women empowerment, such as the WDC loan scheme and Ladli Beti scheme.

She directed the concerned department to organize awareness camps in remote areas of the district to ensure maximum outreach of these schemes.

Sakeena Itoo also praised the commendable work done by Anganwadi workers and helpers in smooth implementation of the scheme across Jammu and Kashmir.

In his welcome address, Mission Director Poshan briefed the gathering on the scheme’s implementation, benefits, and procedures.

During the event, the Minister also distributed letters of appreciation to POICs and data entry operators for their commendable role in the scheme’s execution. She also presented appointment orders to workers and helpers.

On the occasion, Anganwadi workers performed a skit, creatively depicting the entire process and benefits of the scheme.(KNS)
