PC takes strong exception of ‘misogynistic behaviour’ exhibited by Anand Sharma

Srinagar, Aug 18 (KNS): District development council chairperson Baramulla and senior leader Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference, Safina Baig has urged the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi to take strong note of the rude behaviour exhibited by the Congress leader Anand Sharma during a parliamentary standing committee meeting at SKICC Srinagar on Wednesday.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Safina said that it was very unfortunate that the Congress leader behaved in such a manner and that too with a woman.

“I urge Sonia Gandhi to take strong note of Anand Sharma’s behaviour, she is herself a lady and head of the Congress party, and there should be more respect to women in her party. In civilised societies more respect is given to women, but unfortunately Anand Sharma behaved utterly rude just because I wrongly interpreted his name as Anand Pratap instead of Anand Sharma,” she said.

Meanwhile, the People’s Conference in statement took strong exception to utterly rude and misogynistic behaviour exhibited by Anand Sharma of INC towards their senior leader and DDC Chairperson Baramulla Safina Baig.

“An innocuous mistake of getting his Royal Highness Anand Sharma’s name wrong invited wrath of the delusional prince who broke all parliamentary etiquette and protocol by making misogynistic and derogatory remarks against Safina Baig,” reads the statement.

It reads that the behaviour of Hon’ble parliamentarian, who it seems wanted to be treated like a renowned Prince, reeks of colonial mindset.

“The leaders of same party which is trying to advocate and articulate the suffering of the people are lording over elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir due to the new found powers of “parliamentary delegations” in the Union Territory status of J&K. Lording over elected representatives of J&K is an age old aberration of INC leaders. We request Rajya Sabha Chairman to take notice of this highly condemnable incident,” it reads. (KNS)
