Safai Karamcharis protest in Srinagar, demand regularisation of services

Srinagar, May 30 (KNS): Scores of sanitation workers on Saturday staged a protest outside the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies office in Bemina here, demanding regularisation of their services and implementation of pending welfare measures.

The protesters, led by representatives of sanitation workers' unions, raised slogans and urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to address their long-pending demands.

Union leaders said sanitation workers employed as casual labourers in various municipal bodies across Jammu and Kashmir have been waiting for regularisation for several years. They alleged that repeated representations to the authorities had failed to yield any results.

"We have approached the government and concerned officials several times, but our issues remain unresolved. We are demanding implementation of the regularisation policy under the relevant provisions and justice for sanitation workers," a union representative told reporters during the protest.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The protesters said many sanitation workers come from economically weaker sections and depend entirely on their wages for survival. They claimed that delays in addressing their demands have created financial difficulties for their families.

The union leaders warned that if their demands are not met, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days. They said sanitation workers had already begun a strike and could suspend municipal services if the government continued to ignore their concerns.

The protesters appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Urban Local Bodies department to intervene and resolve the matter at the earliest.(KNS).
