Baramulla, Jan 16 (KNS) : Ahead of Republic Day, and amid regular cordon and search operations by security forces, an old rusted mortar shell was detected at an Army convoy ground in Boniyar area of Baramulla district.
An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that a 51 mm rusted mortar shell was found at the convoy ground in Boniyar during a digging process. He stated that soon after the detection, the Bomb Disposal Squad was alerted and the area was secured to prevent any untoward incident. The BDS squad of the 292 Field Engineering Company reached the spot and carried out a controlled operation.
The official said the old mortar shell was safely destroyed on the spot following standard operating procedures. No loss of life or property was reported during the operation.

Earlier on Thursday, SSP Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh, speaking with news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), said that security forces are conducting regular Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) ahead of Republic Day, with large-scale coordinated special operations launched across the district and at inter-district levels.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a multi-agency disaster response drill at the ski resort in Gulmarg, the Baramulla SSP assured that all arrangements for the January 26 celebrations remain intact. "Special operations have been launched wherein large-scale and coordinated efforts are underway all across the district and beyond," he said. (KNS)
