Rural Development Department Abandons Panchayat Ghar in Kargam Handwara


Handwara, June 05 (KNS): A Panchayat building constructed five years back in Kargam village of north Kashmir’s Handwara town has been abandoned by authorities as it has become a safer place for elements involved in anti-social activities.
According to reports reached to KNS that Department of Rural Development has spent lakhs of rupees while constructing Panchayat building in the village but has failed to maintain it afterwards. Reports said the building has been left useless as no door or window is unbroken. It also added that it has become a safer place for smokers and other anti-social elements who often use it in broad day light as authorities have failed to protect the asset.
The residents told KNS that government is utilizing millions of rupees for renovation and construction of Panchayat Ghars across J&K but the way ours have been abandoned seems apathetic outlook of concern department towards the village.
They appealed authorities to take necessary steps in safeguarding the establishment and renovate it at an earliest. (KNS)
