Srinagar, Nov 30 (KNS): Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday said that in recent months the rise in militancy is a failure of both state and central governments.
“There is no doubt that the situation is a cause for grave concern both internally as well as on border on LOC. In recent months we have seen significant deterioration in relations between India and Pakistan. We have seen a significant improve increase intention along line of control; unfortunately we have seen significant rise in militancy, resulting in far higher causalities than in recent years. All this points towards a failure both of the level of state government as well as at the level of the central government to give, to particularly the state of J&K, a peaceful environment that we are desirous of and we deserve. We hope, steps will be taken by state and central government to secure our borders to ensure that we live in peace,” he told KNS.
He said that both India and Pakistan have to take initiatives for holding of dialogue. “Initiative has to be taken by both. Pakistan cannot expect only India to take initiative. Let us be fair.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelPM Modi took initiative; he went to Lahore and attended the wedding. What happened then, Uri,” he said while replying to query.
“I hope, Pakistan will not only look to India for it. But Pakistan will do something on itself so that situation improves. I am not telling you have to go for dialogue today, but I am telling that the dialogue process has to take place any time (in future). I am not holding only India responsible for derailing dialogue process. Both countries have to take initiatives,” he added.
He said that nothing can be said at present as how Pakistan new Army chief would act. “I don’t have any knowledge about General Bajwa. He has just taken the charge and less than 24 hours have passed so far. Let him sit on the chair, take assessment. Let him us see after that what would be his policy on the relations of both countries and on J&K,” he said.
“J&K is part of Shimla agreement. I was discussed in Agra. It has been discussed elsewhere. So, Dr Farooq Abdullah has said in Kishtwar is nothing new,” he said while replying to a query. (KNS)
