Srinagar, Oct 05 (KNS): International Lawyers Rights Watch Canada, Human Rights Watch and the International Commission of Jurists call for the immediate and unconditional release from arbitrary detention of human rights defender Khurram Parvez.
The statement said that Parvez, an internationally known human rights advocate, was prevented from travelling to Geneva to attend the 33rd Session of the Human Rights Council on 14 September, arrested on 16 September and remains in custody.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel” A court order made 20 September directed his immediate release; however, instead of releasing him authorities in Jammu and Kashmir State rearrested and detained him under the Public Safety Act which fails to meet international human rights standards,” the statement reads.
It adds that Khurram’s continued detention contravenes India’s international law human rights obligations. (KNS)
