Srinagar, Oct 11 (KNS): Religious scholars on Sunday demanded revocation of ban on Muharram processions in Srinagar.
While speaking at a day- long “Villayat Conference” held at Shah Abass hotel in Srinagar which was organist by Pairwan-e- Villayat, Islamic scholars termed the ban on 8th and 10th Muharram processions in Srinagar as “illegal and unjustified” and demanded it (ban) to be revoked.
While speaking at the Conference, Patron, Pairwan-e- Villayat Moulana Sibte Muhammad Shabir Qumi said that ban on Muharram processions was “interference in religious affairs”. “The ban must be revoked as it is direct interference in religious affairs. Every Muharram mourners who peacefully come to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) are beaten and injured by the police and paramilitary forces in Srinagar,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The religious scholar alleged state government for seizing the religious rights of Shia community for not allowing them to take off historic Muharram processions in Srinagar. “We always meet step motherly treatment. On one hand huge security and high arrangements are made for the Amarnath pilgrims while as on the other hand Muslims are not being denied of their religious rights. Authorities do not let us take out these peaceful Muharram procession,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ghulam Rasool Hami, patron Karwani-e-Islami who was chief guest on the occasion said that the ban was “unjustified and illegal” must be lifted. “Mourners must not be stopped from observing these processions,” he said. (KNS)
