Review petition filed in Supreme Court on Article 370 verdict

Srinagar, Jan 10 (KNS): Article 370 that had given special status to Jammu and Kashmir is once again in headlines after a review petition was filed on Tuesday in the Supreme Court against its verdict last year upholding the abrogation of Article 370.

According to details available with KNS the review petition was filed in the top court by Awami National Conference senior vice-president Muzaffar Shah, JKPM leader Mohammad Hussian and advocate Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, who were among other petitioners in the Article 370 case.

On December 11, a 5-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud upheld legal validity of the abrogation of Article 370 by the President on August 05, 2019.

While reading out the verdict in the case, the top court had also asked the Centre to restore J&K's statehood as soon as possible and hold assembly elections in the Union Territory before September 30, 2024.

The petitioners, who filed the review petition said that today was the last date to file the petition in the top court and they have filed the petition.

“Not only we but the people of Jammu and Kashmir humbly disagree with the Supreme Court verdict as there are massive loopholes in the verdict. The Constitution has given us a right so we have filed the review petition, which was to be filed within a time frame and we did it,” Muzaffar Shah, one of the petitioners told reporters in Delhi.
