Srinagar August 08 (KNS) : Apni Party General Secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir on Monday said that in view of the improved law and order situation, the government must lift the enduring ban on Muharram processions.
According to a press note, Rafi Ahmad Mir said, "Muharram is the holiest month in which Shiite Muslims participate in mourning processions across the world. The government had started banning these processions in the Valley in the early 1990s. Since then, the ban has continued. However, now the government should have eased the ban in view of the improving law and order situation in the Valley.”
He said, “Since the government itself is saying that the situation has improved in the Valley and normalcy has returned here, the administration must have eased the ban to allow Shiite Muslims to fulfill the religious obligation.”
Apni Party leader further said, “We all know that Taziya processions are purely religious in their nature, and they have nothing to do with politics. These processions are taken in memory of Imam-e-Aali Maqam Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), who along with his companions sacrificed in the battle of Karbala while fighting against the enemies of Islam. Thus, Govt in J&K must revisit its conduct about the Muharram Processions and the mourners.”
He requested the Administration to allow Shiite Muslims to take the traditional procession on the 10th of Muharram.(KNS)
