Situation remained peaceful: police

Srinagar, Jan 05 (KNS): Curfew-like restrictions continued in some parts of Srinagar for the second consecutive day on Tuesday to thwart planned protests by Shia community against the execution of its cleric Sheikh Nimr al Nimr.
A senior police official while talking to KNS said that restrictions were imposed in the police station areas of Rainawari and Zadibal in the summer capital, Srinagar.
He said that the decision to impose restrictions in these areas was taken as a preventive measure to thwart protests by the Shia community members.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Police official further informed KNS that the situation in the curfew bound areas of Srinagar remained peaceful.
Almost three dozen Shia members were arrested at Srinagar’s press enclave who tried to march towards city centre Lal Chowk on Sunday against the execution of its cleric.
Religious as well as political leaders have appealed people to maintain peace and brotherhood to defeat elements who might instigate sectarian strife. KNS)
