Handwara, April 29 (KNS): Residents of Kukroosa of north Kashmir’s Handwara town on Wednesday expressed resentment over inertness of Irrigation & Flood Control Department regarding cleaning canals and termed its tall claims as “hoax”.
Locals told Kashmir News Service (KNS) over phone that they have collected the money from every house hold in the village and have started the cleanliness drive in irrigation canals in the area.
They said it has already been late to sow the agricultural seeds due to prevalent situation and the most of the irrigation canals in the area are dried. They added that local Sarpanch Fayaz Ahmad War and Numberdar of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din took an initiative to clear the irrigation canals in the area as the concerned department has failed to deliver its duty.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile residents of Hangha, Sudergund, Maratgam, Chountipora and adjoining villages complained that I&FC Department has failed to clean Doigam Kul which irrigates thousands of kanals of agricultural land in the area.
When KNS contacted Executive Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Division Handwara Mushtaq Ahmad, he said that the work on several irrigation canals which comes under MNEREGA are underway.
He said due to Covid-19 situation across, the work on several projects are getting delayed. When asked about cleanliness of Doigam Kul, he said, the cleanliness has been started. (KNS)
