Renowned doctor from Bandipora Dr Abdul Qayoom Lone posted as professor GMC Handwara

Srinagar, May 07 (KNS): Renowned doctor from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, Dr Abdul Qayoom Lone, who has held several prestigious posts during his tenure at SKIMA Soura and has several achievements to his name, has been appointed as Professor Government Medical College Handwara.

Dr Qayoom, who hails from Ayathmulla locality of Bandipora, did MBBS from Government Medical College Srinagar in 1983 and MD in Anaesthesiology from SKIMS Soura in 1990.

From a humble family background, Dr Lone has many achievements to his name including establishing of 20 bedded Critical Care Unit at SKIMS which is fully functional for last more than 7 years.

As professor and head of kidney transplant Anaesthesia at SKIMS Soura, he performed more than 500 kidney transplants, in addition he also established a fully equipped 2 bedded kidney ICU for post-transplant care.

Dr Lone also worked with administration as senior member of core committee for management of COVID-19 patients, created more than 10 ventilator beds and 40 beds with high flow oxygen devices in IDB (Infectious disease block) & observation wards. 

He was also presented with Life Time achievement award in December 2020 for effective Covid-19 management. 

Dr Lone has held various prestigious posts during his tenure at SKIMS Soura which includes Professor & Head of Department Anaesthesiology, SKIMS Soura from March 2019 to March 2021.

He was also Professor & Head of Critical Care Medicine, SKIMS from July 2012 to March 2021

From June 2020 to March he held the post of Professor & Head Kidney Transplant Anesthesia, SKIMS. He also held the post of Consultant Anaesthesia & Critical Care in different capacities at SKIMS Soura from June 1994 to July 2012. 

Besides holding prestigious positions during his tenure, Dr Lone has also several publications to his name. (KNS)
