Srinagar, Oct 16 (KNS) : Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, has extended heartfelt appreciation to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for taking what he described as a “bold and visionary step” in reviving the historic Darbar Move, a centuries-old tradition that has been an enduring pillar of Jammu and Kashmir’s socio-administrative fabric.
In a public statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Minister Javed Rana emphasized that the Darbar Move is far more than an administrative exercise; it is a symbol of cultural integration, emotional unity and regional inclusivity.
He noted that by reinstating this practice, the Chief Minister has reaffirmed a tradition that has historically helped bind the diverse regions of Jammu and Kashmir together.
“The Darbar Move is not just an administrative practice, it is a vital engine for Jammu’s economy and a cherished symbol of cultural interaction and integration between regions,” stated Mr. Rana.
He expressed concern that recent critiques of the Darbar Move, focused solely on financial efficiency, fail to grasp the deeper socio-political and emotional significance it holds for the people of both Jammu, Kashmir Valley and other regions.
Mr. Rana asserted that in a State as complex and sensitive as Jammu and Kashmir, cost-saving alone cannot be the metric for governance.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Critics who reduce it to a matter of financial savings overlook the deeper purpose it serves. In a diverse and sensitive State like ours, the spirit of connection, shared presence and symbolic unity holds far greater value than mere cost-cutting,” he added.
Rana further underlined the economic importance of the Darbar Move to Jammu, noting that the seasonal shift in the administrative headquarters provides a significant boost to the local economy, supporting thousands of livelihoods.
Calling it a “time-tested tradition” that reinforces trust and maintains equilibrium between regions, Mr. Rana praised the Chief Minister’s commitment to inclusivity and balance.
He reiterated that the symbolic presence of the administration in both Jammu and Srinagar is vital for reinforcing public confidence, regional equity and emotional integration.
“Jammu and Kashmir’s strength lies in its inclusivity and balance. The Darbar Move reinforces that balance and strengthens trust among regions. The socio-political dividends far outweigh the monetary expense,” Mr. Rana stated.
Rana has consistently aligned himself with a growing chorus of voices advocating for a return to traditional mechanisms that strengthen the emotional and administrative unity of Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS)
