Raise your voice against Kunan Poshpora incident: Hurriyat (M) to Int’l community

‘Despite passing 25 yrs, involved culprits yet to be booked’

Srinagar, Feb 23 (KNS): On the 25th anniversary of Kunan Poshpora mass rape incident, Hurriyat (M) Tuesday urged the international human rights bodies and world community to raise their voice against the gruesome incident, which remains the blackest chapter in the contemporary history of Kashmir.
Appealing the rights bodies and the civilized nations, who believe in justice and humanity, to use their influence in order to bring the culprits of this gory incident to justice. Hurriyat (M) said 25 years have passed but the personnel of Indian Army involved in the mass rape and outraging of modesty of about a hundred women at Kunan and Poshpora parishes of district Kupwara have not been booked for this ghastly crime.
Stressing that while justice continues to elude the victims of this incident, the conglomerate said those talking loud of justice and democratic values of India willfully provided protection to the Army personnel involved in this gruesome incident and muzzled all principles of justice and humanity by taking no action against the rapists.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the mass rape incident of Kunan Poshpora i.e. 23 February which already has been declared as ‘Youm-e-Tahafuz Khawateen Kashmir’ (Day for Protection of Kashmiri Women) by the Hurriyat (M), various programmes were organised appealing the international community to raise their voice for the protection of Kashmiri women from the atrocities committed on them by the government forces.
In this connection, senior Hurriyat (M) leaders and activists including women in large number participated in a peaceful protest demonstration at Srinagar’s Press Colony demanding justice to the Kunan Poshpora mass rape victims and called for punishing the culprit army personnel involved in this inhuman act.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The amalgam also organised a solidarity meet for the Kunan Poshpora mass rape victims at Hurriyat (M) headquarters Rajbagh where senior Hurriyat leaders expressed solidarity with Kunan Poshpora victims and their families and also appealed the international rights bodies to fulfill their responsibility by helping the women waiting for justice for the past 25 years.
Hurriyat (M) leaders including Javed Ahmad Mir, Advocate Abdul Majid Banday, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Abdul Rashid Untoo, Jaffer Kashmiri, Abdul Majid Wani, Abdul Manan Bukhari, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Ghulam Mustafa Bhat, Farooq Ahmad Sodagar, Fatima Sahiba and other Hurriyat women activists participated in the programmes of Hurriyat and denounced the Kunan Poshpora mass rape as the worst incident in the history of Kashmir.
The Hurriyat (M) leaders said on the one hand, Indian civil society, politicians and human rights activists strongly protested against the Damni rape and murder case in Delhi whereas on the other hand their criminal and continuous silence over Kunanposhpora rape case amply exposes their double standards.
The conglomerate leaders said, similarly, the slogans of justice and fair play raised by those who claim to be the protectors of democracy also proved hollow.
Meanwhile, senior Hurriyat leaders Ghulam Nabi Waseem and Ghulam Nabi War visited Kunan Poshpora and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families on behalf of the conglomerate and Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and promised that Hurriyat (M) would continue its demand and struggle for the punishment of those involved in the incident and for the justice of the victims.
