Srinagar, September 1(KNS): Rain lashed several parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the past 24 hours, with Kathua recording the highest rainfall of 73 mm, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said on Tuesday.
According to the weather department, Katra received 62 mm of rain, while Poonch and Udhampur recorded 38.5 mm and 27 mm, respectively, during the period.
The MeT office forecast generally cloudy weather across J&K on September 1 and 2, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places.
It said brief intense heavy showers were likely over parts of the Jammu division, particularly during the early morning and late afternoon or evening hours.
On September 3, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, though brief showers may occur at a few places.
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places on September 4, accompanied by brief intense showers, the forecast said.
From September 5 to 12, J&K is expected to experience generally dry weather, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers possible at isolated to scattered places, mainly during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The MeT Centre advised people to remain cautious in vulnerable areas during periods of intense rainfall.
It also said farmers could continue harvesting and other agricultural operations while keeping local weather conditions in view.(KNS).
