Srinagar, Oct 23 (KNS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday inaugurated development works worth Rs 25 crore and laid foundation stones for five projects in Beerwah constituency of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, saying he remained indebted to the people for the support they extended to him in the 2014 Assembly elections.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) after the inauguration, CM Omar said his visit was aimed at addressing local development needs and ensuring that pending works were completed.

“I have a special connection with the Beerwah Assembly. I have never forgotten that in 2014, the voters of Beerwah did me a favour. I had told the people here that I would remain indebted to them for the rest of my life, and I will keep working to repay that favour,” he said.

Among the key projects highlighted by the Chief Minister was the reconstruction of a bridge over Nal-e-Sukhnaat, a long-standing demand of residents. CM Omar said the bridge had been handed over to the public and thanked the Deputy Chief Minister and officials for expediting the work.

The government has also initiated work on beautification along the river, including a walking track and decks on its banks. CM Omar said Rs 4 crore had been earmarked for the construction and improvement of lanes and drains in Beerwah.

On electricity infrastructure, he acknowledged complaints about the existing receiving station and said the foundation for a new facility had been laid.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“In four to five months, it will start functioning,” he said.

He also announced a transformer repair workshop in the area, citing recurring problems during winter when damaged transformers have to be transported outside for repairs. The proposal was taken up following a demand from local MLA Dr Shafi, he said.

CM Omar said the government would prioritise the completion of pending development works. On the demand for a stadium, he said a suitable site would be identified and the sports department would take up its development.

The Chief Minister also addressed concerns over the national highway passing through the town centre. While noting that highways were generally being routed around urban areas, he acknowledged apprehensions that diverting traffic away from Beerwah could affect local businesses.

“Understanding the demands of the people, we have taken up this matter with the highway authorities. Now we will try to meet the demands of the people here,” he said.

CM Omar, however, declined to comment on questions concerning a possible Cabinet expansion and other political issues, saying he would focus on Beerwah’s development and road-related concerns. (KNS)
