Railways Must Be Swifter, Safer to Fuel Economy: J&K LG

 JAMMU, JAN 27 (KNS) : Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha outlined a transformative, technology-centric vision for the Indian Railways, emphasising its role as the driving force behind national integration and economic growth.

 
Addressing a group of Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) Officer Trainees during an interactive session at Lok Bhavan here, the Lt Governor called for developing a “sleek, passenger-first mobility powerhouse” for the 21st century.
 
Sinha described the Indian Railways as “the very circulatory system of India's aspirations,” stating that this vast network is crucial for economic expansion, social cohesion, and national unity. “From formidable mountain heights to remote rural habitation, Indian Railways threads together industry and marketplace while energizing the everyday lives of millions,” he said.
 
Pushing for a data-driven transformation, the Lt Governor stressed the need to harness operational, passenger, and freight data through scientific analysis. He stated that this tech and intelligence-driven approach would sharpen demand forecasting, optimise resource allocation, reduce accident risks, and strengthen infrastructure.
 
“Smart technology holds the key to reimagining Indian Railways,” Sinha asserted, adding that as India’s economy grows and cities expand, the railways must evolve to be swifter, safer, and more dependable.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
 
Focusing on freight reforms, the Lt Governor highlighted the importance of dedicated freight corridors, modern logistics terminals, and integrated digital platforms. “It will make freight transport faster, cheaper, and more competitive, reduce costs for industries, and give impetus to the Indian economy,” he noted. He also emphasised the future need for a multimodal logistics network integrating rail with road and other transport modes.
 
Exhorting the young officer trainees, Sinha advised them to keep the national interest paramount. “Every file, every decision, and every order you make must have the ultimate objective of serving the nation and building a developed India,” he said.
 
The officer trainees are on a visit to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as part of the Bharat Darshan programme.
 
The event was attended by Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, Course Directors Rahul and Pranjalya Parth Lathe from the Indian Railways Institute of Transport Management, and other senior officials. (KNS)
