Srinagar, Jan 14 (KNS): With the administration "backtracking" from its word with Pulwama residents to release the arrested youth and allow installation of 'memorial' plaque for slain militants, shutdown has been resumed.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator, Muhammad Khalil Bandh, Thursday, said that the administration has failed to deliver on its promises to the people.
While speaking to KNS Bandh said that he approached Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gilani to resolve the crisis.
“Even after the promises made by the administration to resale arrested youth and install a small sign board, nothing has been done in this regard as no such step has been taken so far to resolve the issue,” the MLA Pulwama said.
While extending his support to the people, he said, “I appeal the higher ups to resolve the issue at earliest so that the deadlock ends.”
He said that the people agreed with promises made by the higher ups with them over couple of issues, including installation of the sign board at Shaheed Park, release of youth and other things. “But the inhabitants of the district were left to suffer as no promises were fulfilled. Higher ups in the administration told me that they will visit the district but unfortunately no one came to look into the issue for its redressal,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He said that since day the day shutdown was observed, every local of the area including the labourers, patients, traders, school going children have become the worst sufferers. “I urge the higher ups to fulfill the demands of people so that the normal life returns here,” he told KNS.
A trader, wishing anonymity, told KNS that the administration and police "backtracked from its promise with us barely hours" after a meeting of the district representatives with Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, IGP Kashmir, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gilani, and Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, Neeraj Kumar in Srinagar on Wednesday.
The trader said the resumption of the strike has been decided by the locals because "barely after few hours of the meeting, the administration and police called us about their decision of not allowing us to install the memorial board."
DC Pulwama, Neeraj Kumar, told KNS that the traders have called off the strike. But when asked that the strike has been resumed today, he said "talk to the traders" and dropped the call.
Today will be the fifteenth day of the paralysis in the district due to the obstinacy of the administration to deny the insignia erection, though the traders had relented from installation of a big memorial to a mere simple board at Shaheed Park at busy Rajpora Chowk. (KNS)
