Srinagar, Sep 11(KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) president and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah has expressed regret over the overall situation in Doda district, while strongly criticizing the government's decision to book the legislator under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Addressing media persons, Dr. Abdullah acknowledged that Malik's conduct towards the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Doda was inappropriate, but emphasized that the punitive action taken by the administration was disproportionate.
"The mistake he has made, the way he has insulted the DC chief, I feel sorry for him, that he has made a mistake. But I also feel that the PSA that was imposed on him was wrong. If he had apologised at that time, this would not have happened," Dr.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAbdullah said.
The development has led to heightened tensions in Doda, with the administration imposing a curfew and suspending internet services in an attempt to control the situation.
Local reports indicate that the region remains tense following Malik's detention under PSA.
"Today, Doda is in trouble. On one hand, it is grappling with floods, and on the other, with the fallout of this incident. I would like to ask the government to think about this seriously and remove the PSA," he urged.
The former CM added, "I would also like to take back the words that were used against the DC chief."(KNS).
