Srinagar, June 28 (KNS): The family members of the deceased tourist guide Shakeel Ahmad of Gagangeer Ganderbal Tuesday said that they were proud that Shakeel lost his life while saving the life of a tourist. 


Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) they also expressed gratitude to director tourism Kashmir for being with the family during grief. 
 
Father of Shakeel Ahmad said that it was destined to happen that he lost his son while trying to save the life of a tourist during trekking in Pahalgam.
 
“He was a tourist guide for the last few years and used to guide tourists going for trekking. He lost his life while saving the life of a tourist and I equally felt bad for his loss as he also could not survive. I am thankful to the director tourism Kashmir as he was with us throughout this period of grief,” he said.

Parvez Ahamed, brother of late Shakeel Ahmad said that he is thankful to the director tourism Kashmir for being with their family, and said that his brother was the only source of income for them and they have also urged the department to consider it.
 
“My brother had got a tourist guide license some 3-4 years back and had done a technical course as well. Unfortunately my brother lost his life while trying to save the life of a tourist. The tourist lost his balance while crossing the stream, and Shakeel without caring for his life jumped after him to save his life but both lost their lives,” he said.
 
He added that he is thankful to the administration at Pahalgam, SDM, locals, and Police as they all remained with them during the rescue operation and provided all necessary support. (KNS)
